FS4JK Chapter Assessment
During 2008-2009 Farm Safety 4 Just Kids will be assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the FS4JK Chapter system. Telephone interviews have been conducted with half the FS4JK Chapters to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses that influence chapter success. Focus groups within ten stratified randomly selected chapter locations will be facilitated by local Extension Educators using a modified SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) format. A SWOT is an analysis tool to audit an organization and its environment. The identified strengths and weaknesses will be prioritized by the group led by the Extension facilitator. Opportunities and threats plus strategies to deal with these will be identified.
At the same time of the chapter focus groups, FS4JK staff will be conducting a focus group with community people that have participated in past chapter events. The purpose of these focus groups will be to determine the impact of community farm safety and health programs on knowledge, attitude, and behavior.
The ten randomly selected FS4JK Chapters participating in the project are: Illini (Illinois), Page County (Iowa), Litchfield Area (Minnesota), South Central (Nebraska), Darke County Ohio), Northview 4-H (Florida), Dickson County (Tennessee), Oswego County (New York), Adair County (Kentucky), and Western Colorado.
This project is being funded by the USDA CSREES. For more information contact Shari Burgus at shari@fs4jk.org , Tyler Vacha at tyler@fs4jk.org ,or call 1-800-423-5437.
